You gotta stop rewatching your Instagram stories
Quick disclaimer: I rushed to write this edition in a short time so that I don’t miss publishing an issue at least once a month. Hence, the content might not be the best, but it is still good. Take it easy on me this week.
The main stuff
Ads are the reason why we have the internet which we love/ hate today. If not for Ads, the entry barrier of the subscription fee would have stopped us from entering this social garden. A switch to GenAI to answer our questions has challenged this business model. This will lead Ad money to move to more premium and authentic spaces. Nevertheless, business models evolve and Ads will come into our internet lives in one form or another.
Tbh, we would have stalked our own Instagram stories/ posts than a stalker. Seeing social media as an extension of ourselves has increased our desire to know how others see us. The search for the answer to the question “Who am I” has extended our want for social acceptance to the online world. Although it is not bad, there is always a limit to anything. Passively consuming our own content and getting dopamine hits through the interactions is on the road to disaster though.
Internet’s spam problem is overtaken by the Slop. Slop is random garbage generated by AI masquerading as real content in the corners of the Internet. The slop clogs our search results and denies us real information. This has seeped into the offline world through AI-generated research articles. AI didn’t push humans off the internet considering humans are the ones creating slop. It only going to get worse as it becomes more difficult to identify and eliminate the slop.
The increased focus on mental and physical health by the Gen Zs has led to the practice of optimizing sleep. Ranging from taping your mouth to heating bedsheets, the market for the tools to get a good night’s sleep has been on the rise. The efficacy of the tools is questionable and it more depends on the social trends to try any new tool. This chase for optimal sleep will lead to increased pressure and anxiety to reach that goal. Need shouldn’t become an obsession.
It is natural for us to say “No” to normal things when we are feeling low. But we can find the motivation to indulge in those activities by cultivating positive emotions and savoring them. We don’t need to eliminate the bad. Just increase the joy in the situations. Create an activity that will give us joy or make us happy once every day. That can be anything ranging from painting to talking to a friend. We are worthy of being happy and we should allow ourselves to be so.
Somebody said something great here
If you marry, you will regret it; if you do not marry, you will also regret it; if you marry or if you do not marry, you will regret both; whether you marry or you do not marry, you will regret both. Laugh at the world’s follies, you will regret it; weep over them, you will also regret it; if you laugh at the world’s follies or if you weep over them, you will regret both; whether you laugh at the world’s follies or you weep over them, you will regret both. Believe a girl, you will regret it; if you do not believe her, you will also regret it; if you believe a girl or you do not believe her, you will regret both; whether you believe a girl or you do not believe her, you will regret both. If you hang yourself, you will regret it; if you do not hang yourself, you will regret it; if you hang yourself or you do not hang yourself, you will regret both; whether you hang yourself or you do not hang yourself, you will regret both. This… is the sum of all practical wisdom.
